More than just products marking the culmination of their academic journey, the graduation projects of students in the Multimedia Communications program at Van Hien University demonstrate their creativity, storytelling abilities, and capacity to apply technology in the production of media products.
In the music video (MV) category, students showcase their individual creativity from the songwriting stage. One student of groups wrote and composed their own songs before developing them into visual productions. Others combined animation, nonlinear storytelling, and cinematic language to create compelling visual narratives. Notably, several groups chose to explore historical themes, bringing stories and cultural values into contemporary forms of expression and thereby creating connections between the past and present-day life. The combination of music, animation, and flexible storytelling allows these productions to move beyond the conventional format of a music video.
In the documentary film category, students have continued to experiment with innovative approaches, including the docu-fiction genre. Rather than simply documenting reality through interviews and narration, the groups focus on constructing stories through visual imagery, characters, and settings, creating a more immersive and emotionally engaging experience for audiences.
Two projects focusing on Tương Bình Hiệp lacquerware craftsmanship and Định Yên mat weaving village are notable examples. Through stories of traditional crafts, students explore the cultural values, memories, and everyday lives of craft communities using the language of contemporary cinema.
These graduation projects demonstrate that Multimedia Communications students are not only developing proficiency in visual and audio production and post-production techniques, but are also cultivating creative thinking, storytelling skills, and the ability to transform cultural materials into meaningful and engaging media products.
